My favorite memory of our Asti was showing her as a puppy.  She was happily baiting, and jumping up at me as we stood in the Puppy Group lineup, waiting for our turn to move.  My girlfriend was gesturing at me wildly, from outside the ring, and, as I turned to the judge, he was laughing uproariously. Looking down, I discovered that all the buttons on my dress were suddenly missing! It seems that Asti had been nipping off my buttons, one at a time, each time she jumped up! We did win the Puppy Group that day – perhaps as a sympathy vote from the judge!

The 4 pups from Astra’s first litter did extremely well at the US National in 1996, all placing or winning in Futurity, Sweepstakes and regular classes.

In her retirement, Astra lived with, and was much loved by Vivian Scrudder and Lou Worthington.  Many thanks to them for their great care of her, in her elder years!

Dam of 5 Champions, earning her the title of Register of Merit  from the Samoyed Association of Canada:

Beebe – aka Beester, Beebop, the Boss Bitch! Bee finished her Championship with a hat trick: three Best Puppy in Group wins on a weekend, and Best Puppy in Show!  Beebe is a daughter of our girl Cricket, sired by our Spirit.

She was a lovely sweet natured girl, who kept all the others in line. Anyone with a teacup had best beware – her nose was a dangerous weapon when inserted under one’s elbow! Her favorite place was on the couch snuggled up to Paul.

She is terribly missed… but lives on in her kids and grandkids – we lost our Bee to mammary cancer much too soon…

Chewie’s pedigree

hips: Pennhip  DI 0.43 Laxity Profile Ranking 85%

eyes cleared November 2007

Chewie was another choice of my heart – although this time the first born – as a result of a difficult birth he too had to be revived, and stole my heart from then on! He became a very spoiled youngster – and we paid the price for this with his behavior in the show ring – he earned the nickname of “Stop It” from ringside bystanders listening to me telling me repeatedly to do just that, as I tried to control his antics in the ring! He knew he did not want to be a show dog – and he fought it every step of the way! He did finish his Championship with a Group placement, in spite of himself!

Chewie is one of 4 Champions in his litter. The others are Ch Sancha Cusona Miakusha “Mia” owned by Louise Cox, Ontario; Ch Sancha’s Canuck of Guernsey, “Jax” owned by Robert and Molly Kline, Victoria, BC, and Ch Sancha’s Khaminka of Cusona, “Khami” owned by Kit Wilson in Ontario. Another brother, Sancha’s Cusona Valentyn went to Moscow, Russia.

Cricket was a gentle sweetie who used to be the boss around here, until her daughter Bee came along!  She is a daughter of BIS BISS Am Ch Moonstar’s Hollywood Knight HNP – Seger, out of our girl Trouble.

Cricket finished her Championship with an exciting Best of Winners at the Tyee Booster weekend.  We have not shown her much since as she really prefers to just be at home, herding (or hunting?) the cats!

We lost our dear Cricket girl much too young, to mammary cancer, late in January 2010.

Gemma’s pedigree

Gemma is the litter sister to our Kelsa – she was the girl we originally kept when Kelsa was sent to Florence Hawdon.   She is a charmer, who has won the hearts of many; most recently Diana and Paul Gaiger, where she now rules the roost and keeps Shiloh company. We decided that Gem was in need of more attention that she was getting in our pack, and had decided to place her, and that was when Diana stepped in and said she was not going anywhere else but to her home!

Our 56th Canadian Champion and first Champion in 2008, finished with two Best Puppy in Working Group wins. Jazz was a singleton puppy from her mother’s second and last litter – when you only get one puppy, it’s just a bonus when they turn out to be show quality!  She turned out to be just lovely, though spoiled rotten! She earned her name with the fact that she would ( and still does ) sing out her demands, right from the age of two weeks:  Feed me NOW!!!  Let me IN – NOW!!!

Kelsa is our multiple Group Winning, Best in Show winner.  She has twice been ranked in the top 10 Samoyeds in Canada, with many other Group placements to her credit.

Kelsa had been chosen, as litter pick, to go to Florence Hawdon in Ontario, while we kept her litter sister, our Gemma. Unfortunately Florence’s husband became seriously ill a short time later, and Florence returned Kelsa to us, as she felt she would not have time to devote to her show career just then, although we continued to co-own her. Kelsa had already taken her first points and Best of Breed from the classes. She went on to finish easily in Canada, and earned numerous Group placements in tough West Coast Group competition.

Kelsa earned her American Championship with Winners at the Willamette Specialty in Oregon, June 2007, and again the following day, then Best of Winners at a Willamette Valley supported entry in January 2008 and finally Best of Breed at Yakima Valley shows in May 2008.

Kelsa has twice won Best in Show – first at Tyee Kennel Club in 2009, and a second in January 2013 at the age of 9 years, and after 3 litters! She was ranked as #1 Samoyed in Canada til the end of June 2013, when we more or less retired her; although we will still show her occasionally, since she loves it so!

Lucas’ pedigree

Lucas first came to me from his breeder/owner, to be shown in the Lower Mainland, as there were very few shows up North where she lived.  It was love at first sight! He seemed to me to be the very image of a dog that I had much admired – Eng Ch Americ of Kobe; and in fact his pedigree was linebred on that dog’s descendants.
I was thrilled to be offered the opportunity to keep Lucas, after we showed him to his Canadian and American Championship.  He earned his Herding Instinct Certificate from the American Herding Breeds Association, working on sheep, long before herding trials became a recognized CKC or AKC event.

His soundness and wonderful temperament have influenced all our succeeding generations…

Sire of 11 Champions, earning him the first ROMC ever awarded by the Samoyed Association of Canada:

Nadia’s pedigree

Nadia was named after the Romanian gymnast, Nadia Komanec, as a result of her demonstrated climbing and acrobatic skills as a very young puppy! Nadia never really enjoyed the show ring, much preferring to be a couch warmer at home!  She lived up to her name Naughty, having 2 unplanned litters before the age of 2 years, due to her ability to climb over, thru or under any barrier in her way, when she decided she wanted to!

She spent her final years with Florence Hawdon-Conway and her husband Bill, who adored her.
